When you do it local you don't need a car. You can just walk. Or transit. Or a short hop in a cab. Perhaps someday on a Segway. Even if you do need to or prefer to, use your car, it is only for a very short period of time (and you probably know a good place to park.) You're helping to reduce our footprint on the big neighbourhood we all share.
Ok, that's the story for the air. Here's the story for the trees. The website in your area has specials, coupons and the like from vendors in your area. Print them and take them in and save a few bucks - and more than a few trees.
Used to be your neighbourhood vendor would have to send out one thousand pieces of paper to get one back Now they can just get the one back. The one you're going to print out to see how it works.
Added bonus, You're likely to strike up a conversation with someone that could be your neighbour.
Have Fun?
Ok, you get the shopping and dining part, but 'have fun'. Simple again. There's stuff going on in your neighbourhood - fairs, gallery openings, events. Check them out. Don't sit on your back porch and listen to the vibe, walk down to the corner and breathe it in.
Most of the sites involved with DoItSmart-DoItLocal also have Event calendars listing all the stuff going on in your 'neck of the woods'. Make it a date to check it out.
Get Involved.
No this is not an admonition. But it is stated with some urgency. Become involved in your community. It's good for you, and its good for your community.
SAVE
We're not trying to be commercial. Just practical. Folks in your neighbourhood want to sell you something. We think it's good for you to buy their stuff ... and good for all of us. So to get the ball rolling we are using a time-honoured practise, providing an incentive ... a no lose proposition. You get to try something in your neighbourhood on special ... what's wrong with that.
Hope all that convinces you. That you can see that doing stuff in your neighbourhood, is good for your neighbourhood and our neighbourhood ... and good for you.
Enjoy doing it - whatever it might be.
